Casa Ursula
Panarea, Aeolian Islands, SicilyCasa Ursula, Panarea
A wonderful villa on the Aeolian island of Panarea, located off the north eastern tip of Sicily.
This house was laid out initially in 1973 by interior decorator and Panarea icon Guilio Contarini, who also designed Greta Garbo’s villa on Capri, as well as the Sette Mulini house on Panarea for leading contemporary art dealers Erika Brausen and Toto Koopman.
The owner’s collection of Chinese and Far Eastern art were incorporated into the traditional Aeolian style, mingling with ancient Sicilian tiles, furnitures and artefacts.
The breathtaking views of the surrounding islands and the uniqie interiors make this one of the most beautiful villas on Panarea. I originally photographed it in 1998, publishing it as a feature in a number of interior design magazines, but now the owner is selling it he asked me to rephotograph it in 2026 to remind him of the many happy years spent on this most unique of all Mediterranean islands.
