Panorama over Calajunco and Punta Milazzese at Sunset
This panorama of Panarea is a digital composite image, created by stitching together many single photographs to create a highly detailed wide view.
This view was taken late in the day during the month of May. I waited until the the last, dying rays of the sun were still illuminating with their warm glow the rocky, craggy peninsula of Punta Milazzese, bringing out the reddish and yellow tones of the volcanic coastline of the island itself, the dry Mediterranean shrubbery, as well as the rocks and boulders by the pathway.
The calm sea with just a couple of sailing boats add to this tranquil scene of natural beauty.
The cape of Punta Milazzese houses the remains of a prehistoric civilization dating to the 2nd millennium BC, and a long arm of this dramatic promontory stretches out to form and enclose the stunningly beautiful bay of Calajunco, which faces the setting sun in the south west and the islands of Lipari and Salina on the horizon.
