Ta Prohm Temple

Featuring a concentric set of galleries with corner towers and gopuras, this atmospheric yet complex temple-monastery was one of the major buildings of Jayavarman VII dating to the late 12th/early 13th century. Ta Prohm has been left in the state that all the Khmer Angkor temples were in when uncovered from the dense jungle by French explorers in the 19th century. Kapok trees and stranger figs clench the building in the tight grip of their roots, and the romance of the temple is further accentuated by its partly collapsed state with large stone blocks and statues lying strewn or jumbled throughout.
