Cambodia
The dramatically large temples in Cambodia, complex in structure, enigmatic in meaning and stunningly decorated, were built by the Khmer kings around 1,000 years ago. These buildings, which often were envisaged as Hindu state temples with entire cities evolving around them, are amongst the most beautifully sculpted and richly symbolic religious buildings anywhere in the world. They are located in the area known as Angkor, close to the modern, bustling and vibrant city of Siem Riep, and they are also very close to the Tonle Sap lake, many photographs of which can be seen here.
